New York - Chrysler

John Keane · 2025

This image is a striking abstract painting of a cityscape of New York City with the Chrysler Building in the background. The painting is rich in texture and color, using bold strokes and a palette knife technique to create a dramatic, modern urban scene. Perspective: The view is from the middle of a street, with two yellow road lines leading the viewer’s eye toward the center, creating a sense of depth and movement. Skyline: Tall skyscrapers line both sides of the road, painted in cool tones—blues, grays, and whites—with reflective qualities that give the illusion of glass. Atmosphere: The sky is a vertical blend of muted pink, brown, and gray, contributing to a moody, twilight or rainy-day feel. Billboards: Brightly colored abstract rectangles on the lower sides of buildings resemble illuminated billboards or advertisements, adding vibrancy. Reflection: The wet road reflects the city lights and buildings, enhancing the sense of depth and realism despite the abstract style. Overall, it's a dynamic and expressive depiction of urban life, balancing realism with abstraction to evoke emotion and atmosphere.
